How we approach treatment
Psychological Testing & Evaluation
Psychological testing and evaluation involve a comprehensive series of evidence-based assessments used to identify the root causes of mental health symptoms and conditions. This process is highly valuable when underlying struggles are complex or unclear, despite apparent signs like academic or social difficulties in children or persistent relationship and workplace challenges in adults.
Rather than generalized assessments, this evaluation utilizes targeted clinical diagnostics, cognitive screenings, and specialized objective measures to precisely screen for conditions such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, mood disorders, and PTSD.
To make the process as seamless as possible, these standardized questionnaires and diagnostic screenings are built into the initial paperwork you complete before your very first appointment. Your clinician will review these insights during your initial consultation to help formulate an accurate diagnosis and create a highly personalized treatment plan. Furthermore, these brief assessments are utilized for routine reassessment throughout your treatment journey to objectively track your progress and tailor your care over time.

Experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event can leave a lasting impact, making it difficult to feel safe, focused, or like yourself again. Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based, specialized counseling approach designed to help individuals—particularly children, teens, and families—heal from the psychological aftermath of trauma.
When a traumatic event occurs, it can disrupt emotional well-being, behavior, and daily functioning. TF-CBT provides a structured, compassionate pathway to process those experiences, manage distressing symptoms, and return to a healthy, vibrant state of living.
-
What it is: If you struggle with anxiety, mood swings, or a harsh inner critic, Compassion-Focused Therapy can help. It is especially effective for those whose feelings of shame or self-doubt stem from difficult early life experiences or past trauma.
How it helps: CFT focuses on the powerful connection between your mind and body. Through simple practices like mindfulness, visualization, and guided reflection, you will learn how to quiet your brain’s "threat alarm" and notice how your emotions show up physically.
The Goal: Instead of constantly judging yourself, CFT gives you the tools to:
Quiet severe self-criticism.
Build a genuine sense of safety and self-acceptance.
Manage difficult emotions with confidence and calm.
-
What it is: If you want to make a positive change in your life but feel stuck, hesitant, or conflicted, Motivational Interviewing can help. It is a collaborative, goal-oriented approach frequently used to help individuals overcome substance use, mild addictions, or any habit they want to break.
How it helps: It is completely normal to feel two ways about making a major life change. MI doesn't force change on you or tell you what to do; instead, we work together to explore your mixed feelings (ambivalence) and uncover your personal reasons for wanting something different.
The Goal: By focusing on your personal strengths and values, MI helps you:
Move past the feeling of being "stuck."
Find and fuel your own internal motivation.
Build a clear, realistic plan for lasting, positive change.
-
What it is: You are the expert on your own life. Person-centered therapy is a supportive, collaborative approach where you take the lead in your sessions. Instead of telling you what to do, your provider acts as a compassionate guide to help you uncover your own strengths and solutions.
How it helps: This therapy provides a completely safe, judgment-free space. Your provider listens deeply and accepts your experiences exactly as they are, without interrupting, redirecting, or imposing their own agenda.
The Goal: By fostering an environment of total acceptance and support, this approach empowers you to:
Trust your own insights and intuition.
Process your thoughts and feelings at your own pace.
Grow into a stronger, more confident version of yourself through self-discovery.
-
What it is: Instead of focusing only on what is "wrong" or dwelling on past shortcomings, strength-based therapy highlights your internal resilience and resourcefulness. It is a positive, empowering approach that focuses on your natural talents and assets to help you overcome current challenges.
How it helps: By shifting the focus away from weaknesses and failures, this approach helps you build a more supportive, hopeful mindset. We work together to discover your existing strengths and learn how to leverage them to handle life's stressors more effectively.
The Goal: By retraining your focus toward what you do well, this therapy helps you:
Rewrite negative stories you may tell yourself about your capabilities.
Shift your worldview to one that is more positive and resilient.
Develop more compassionate, realistic expectations for yourself and others.
